She lived her dreams, and made us dream of pushing our limits, by her example, by her passion, and for this and everything she changed and pushed in action sports, and all the people she touched, directly and indirectly, and the level she reached in freestyle skiing, and just simply being amazingly awesome at life, thank-you Sarah. Around the world on every mountain Sarah is loved, honored, and can never ever be forgotten.

SUMMER is HERE, and with this late summer sun comes catch-up shopping, which can be frustrating as you prob don't want to be shopping when the sun's out! ...Plus it always feels like summer trends happen after all the fashion addicts buy everything, so here's a quick trend report to shop smart and fast, and feel good cuz your steezing! Below are my notes from the road to help you summer shop without missing a sunset, and so you have money for sport-radness! I have been on a shop tour for last few weeks as my day-job is as a sales rep for NIKITA (shop-tours often feel like a party-tour but loads of hard-work too;), I get to see everyday what is hip and shakin in all parts of my province, and been getting awesome feedback from our dealers, and meeting rad babez who have style for miles!!

Here are some SUMMER 2011 STYLE/TREND notes to share with you!

1. SUMMER KEY COLOUR: Peach/Coral is the new PINK ...looks killer with a tan. Many dealers say they don't like to buy too much PEACH but orange tones are IN starting this season, so scoop it when you see it!

2. SWEET SWIMWEAR: Peach and oranges are poppin and FRESH option if your OVER PINK/PURPLE in swimwear as well! PLUS ANIMAL PRINTS are still trending strong, so if you haven't tried it yet ..get wild!

3.SUMMER STEEZING: Its all about creating NEW boyfriend inspired looks, and styling.

THINK Comfort, steeze, and sexiness all in one outfit! VA BAM ! NIKITA nails this every season for you!

4. SUMMER TRENDING: WHITE-ISH ... keeps you light and lit. All-white is trending, but next level is working white-ish and taking the trend to the next with monocramatic (light on light). NIKITA has some awesome light colour pieces that babez are digging!! This flannel is sweet as a cover up with swim as well, its light and light-weight!

5. SUMMER NIGHTZ: Light-weight summer hoods, and bottom draw-strings are so-surf-trendy right now. We live is Canada so nights are cold, and after lake-sesh times can be a bit on the chilly-side, so buying a sweet summer hoody is KEY.

6. SUMMER OVERSIZED GOODNESS: MY CURRENT FAV ...its perfection in a TANK... long/burnout/front-ZIPPER

...and this piece can be work many many wayz. Plus the layering, or bike shorts...sick.

7. MULTI-SEASON PIECES: VESTS are IMPORTANT and great for layering.

8. SUMMER PRINTS: Feathers are awesome on anything. and so is this babez HELLO KITTY TAT!!

8. SUMMER SKIRTS: Last Summer 'dresses' were key and this summer think SKIRTS to add to the MIX.

9. SUMMER EURO TREND: DROPPIN CROTCH: I'm going to be super honest here ...feedback from my MOST of my dealers on DROPPIN CROTCH "its a HARD sale" especially in small-farm-beach-towns in Ontario! I am not even allowed to bring this style into the showing or I will get kicked out of an appointment (complete truth)! BUT screw it, every urban-ish/ fashion minded girl needs a pair, for her 'EURO' stylying day. Small towns may not catch on for another couple years, but this trend is something to add to the MIX, especially if your hip and like to have fun with what you wear this purchase is well worth the FUN, plus looks super cute with tucked in tops/tanks and thin belts.

10. JAM AT THE JAM... THAT'S SMART.

This season 2011 The RadGalz CLUB hosted an event called ‘GATHERING JAM’ at Cypress Mountain Sunday MARCH 6th for an all girls ride day/jam (Gathering) in the park, promoting the galz side of shred and mountain lifestyle. Also released NEW RadGalz JerZ designs, and the RadGalz x New Era Cap Collab which all the galz in the event recieved in their reg packages and are NOW available for purchase and at PRE-ORDER SALE PRICE til April 15th (New JerZ include a RGZ x NEW ERA CAP AND NEW RGZ STICKERS *while supplies last). The event had some RAD west coast weather with some sun and good snow. The galz started the day with YOGA warm-up and yummy green energy drink (made with a VitaMIX- so rad every gal needs one) compliments of Oshenik snow.surf.health. (see BE A OG post below).

The onhill JAM was super mellow with galz sessioning all day, working on tricks, with jamz on three main features and a couple sick JUMP Jamz. Prizing from our amazing sponsors included NIKITA hoods which were given out for radness during the jamz but also for TOP trick of each of the JAMZ. We sneak peaked NEXT SEASON NIKITA OUTERWEAR 2012 sported by some rad galz helping out, and in the event, makin the JAM even more steeze- GET excited NIKITA Outerwear 2012 is super stylish!

The event welcomed galz with awesome JAM making skills but also those new to JAM making! As well, some injured but healing galz were there supporting and helping out, which was super rad. The Galz also enjoyed JAM and Biscuits, BBQ lunch, and killed it at a Head-Jam-Stand-OFF, and JAMMIN-Dance-OFF, which the park boys could not resist gettin down with! The Event is ALL GIRLS ALL ABLITIES ride day and JAM in the park (yum) with a mellow vibe. Galz will do laps, work on tricks, throw-down, or just hang out in the JAM LOUNGE and preview 2012 NIKITA OUTERWEAR and Cilla Layers, take PHOTO'S with MTV/Skate for Cancer photographer ERIN HOGUE, get inspired, and play games for prizes. This event is more of a ‘ride’ day just with lots of other ‘like-minded’ galz, and with LOADS of prizing for ‘radness’, and top prizes for best trick of the day for all levels of ability (Beginner/Intermediate/Advanced). This event will be rider judged throughout the day.

Creative outlets? I draw, paint, sew, take photos, graphic design, web design, DYI everything.. I have always been interested and inspired by art + design and continue to play with different medias daily...

What do you want to do when you grow-up? I want to be working freelance in something to do with snowboarding, design, fashion, media.. I want to travel alot.

What did you want to do when you were 10 yrs old? 'Haha' I can't remember but I am going to assume professional snowboarder?..

Whats your fav before/après snowboarding meal/snack?

In the winter I usually start my day off with oatmeal with fruit and a coffee. After snowboarding I make a wrap filled with veggies and homemade hummus...
Do you cook/Fav recipe? I love food and cooking. Here is one for Red Curry Tofu + Veggies:

Ingredients: RED CURRY TOFU x VEGGIES

2 tbsp fresh chopped basil
1 tbsp red curry paste
1 14 ounce can coconut milk
1 carrot, sliced thin
1/2 cup green peas
1/2 cup baby corn, chopped
1 block firm or extra firm tofu
2 tbsp chopped fresh cilantro
1 tsp brown sugar
juice from one lime
2-3 small Thai chilies (or to taste), minced

Preparation:

Combine basil, curry paste and coconut over medium high heat, stirring well to mix curry paste. Add remaining ingredients. Bring to a slow simmer. Cover and allow to cook for 10-12 minutes, or until veggies are soft.
Serve over rice if desired. ( Red Quinoa is my favourite)
- I usually put so much sriracha on top that I am sweating while eating.

What do you do to stay fit in the off season/during? I have been plagued with injuries and something that I wish I knew from the start is to keep your body balanced and strong to avoid hurting yourself. I go to the gym as much as I can although after awhile it can get boring... I love signing up for courses I have never tried before. I started doing yoga which I love. I start boxing this fall and want to try out zumba dancing as well. Always switching it up, staying active and always learning is key...

When did you start riding? I started skiing when I was 5 and switched to snowboarding when I was about 7 years old.

How did you get into it? I was on a ski team when I was younger and they have 'snowboard day' so I tried it. The next year I switched to snowboarding full time.

What keeps you riding and wanting to progress? Snowboarding is just good, I couldn't imagine not doing it. Not trying to get better at something your doing is just boring; In all aspects of life.

What is your dream for you and your board? I would love to get to travel and snowboard as much as I can what ever that ends up being.

DO you compete? Yes, I compete.

DO you do any other board sports? I am trying to learn to surf, its hard and I zipzing for transportation.. like going to the mail box.

What other sports or activities are you into and passionate about? I am into all things active. I like biking , hiking, soccer, swimming , yoga and recently I want to get into boxing.. I hear its real good for overall body strength.

What trick (s) are you working on/planning to work on this season? Bigger spins, more technical tricks and bringing everything I know to bigger features. Weather that be in the park or in the backcountry.. doing something I am scared of everyday.

RAD style tips:

How do you describe your style? My style is a mix of everything around me. Snowboarding I try to be in calm and in control. As for clothing wise I am constantly changing my ‘theme’ of what I am into at the moment...

What is your current go-to piece of clothing/riding clothing? Currently I am really into American Heritage Ranch Cowboy in City... (if that makes any sense)..

...with snowboarding. Good cuts, solid colours...functional outerwear.

favourite colour combination? Street- Snow- Right now I am really into earth tones.. browns, forest greens and tans.
For snowboarding I like good unique colours that are different from the seasons 'trend' colours...

favourite snowboard and fashion look/style right now? I am a big Erin Wasson fan... I like her daily fashion and her designs for RVCA.

Tight or Baggy:
little bit of both.. I am quite tall.

If you could design a RadGalz shred and lifestyle event what would happen at the event? WOW this one just hit me. You know that old show gladiator? and the new show MXE or whatever? Anyways you need teams... in this case we can say teams of 4? Colour coded or what-have-you. Put these teams through a day of rigorous testing. I am talking endurance, balance, skills, speed the whole nine yards. Including and excluding the snowboard. My favourite event was always the big sticks where you hit each other off the podium. Or the one where they have a paintball gun and you have to get from point A to point B without being caught. Anyways mix that in with some snowboarding add a great game of skate (or snow) and a BBQ with good tunes. Crowd picks team winner/individual winners and you have yourself a good contest.

RAD STYLE TIPS:

How do you describe your style?

It really depends on the day and what I'm doing... one day I look like a skater chick, another day I'm a hippie, another day I'm totally girly. I think it's boring to box yourself into one “style”.

What is your current go-to piece of clothing/riding clothing/fav colour combination?

Clothing: I just silk-screened some more Escarpment Surfers / Onterrible shirts to represent my home crew when I'm abroad! Also, stoked on my new Ipath shoes, who I'm sponsored by through S&J Distributing.

Riding clothing: NJK Leathers, because they know our sport the best.

Fav Colour Combo: That would have to be the colours of my leathers--turquoise and yellow. I chose those because the Ukrainian flag is blue and yellow and I am pretty proud of my roots.

Tight or Baggy, Stripes vs Solid, Print or Plain, Vintage vs Fresh?

Definitely vintage! The rest of the above totally depend on my mood...

RAD LIVING TIPS:

Creative outlets? I used to sew and crochet a lot because I found them to be meditative... one year everybody got scarves or hats for Christmas. But I stopped when skating came along. It really took over my life.

Hustle...? do you work? what helps fund your shredding dreams right now?

Right now I am a “Yoga Advisor” at a studio. In the winter, I work as a ski instructor.

What do you want to do when you grow-up?

My short-term plans are becoming certified in Yoga teaching and Thai Massage. I would also be happy to have a job in Holistic Nutrition or physical activity promotion. In the long-term, I plan to go back to school for my Masters (probably in Human Kinetics).

Whats your fav before/après meal/snack?

I love green smoothies! I have one every morning for breakfast. Some greens from my garden (rotate between Kale, Spinach, Dandelion, Swiss Chard, etc.), berries, banana, and almond milk! I like to add flax seeds, hemp protein, maca, and spirulina.

Do you cook/Fav recipe?

I “un-cook” (as we raw-foodists like to call it)! My favourite recipe is for Raw Borscht, which is as good as my grandma's cooked recipe! I also love making raw desserts. But pretty much anything off this site is great: http://www.goneraw.com/

Do you train or work out? What do you do to stay fit in the off season/during?

As I already mentioned, Yoga is my favourite way to train! I also bike to work, so that keeps me fit.

When did you start thrashing roads and hills?
I first stepped on a longboard in 2006. Before that I had never done any board sports. My first race was in 2007.
How did you get into it?
There is a huge longboarding community in Toronto and there are regular skate sessions. One of my girlfriends got involved in it and invited me to come out to a garage session (since there are very few hills to skate in Toronto, some riders take to bombing parking garages). Later, I got peer pressured into going up north (where the fast runs are) and, from then on, I was hooked.
What keeps you riding and wanting to progress?
I longboard because of the way it makes me feel, the amazing places it takes me, and the rad people I get to meet! It was that first adrenaline rush that got me interested and the longboard family (both local and international) that kept me here. It’s like an awesome never-ending adventure and I can’t imagine my life without it!
What is your dream for you and your board ?
I would be happy if I could do this more professionally. At the moment I just have sponsors for gear/products, and am going broke sending myself around the world to events. But that hasn't stopped me yet and it probably never will. In fact, I am living my dream of skating the best roads around the world, so I just hope to continue doing that as long as I can. It's a big world with a lot of roads! Anything is skateable as long as it's paved, so urban planning is like a ski resort map to us longboarders.
DO you compete?
Yes. I have competed in Switzerland, Germany, France, Italy, Belgium, Sweden, Czech Republic, England, South Africa, the U.S., and of course, Canada. Last year I was the IGSA (International Gravity Sports Association) World Cup Series Women's Champion.
DO you do any other board sports?
Not really.. I have been surfing once, and that is something I would definitely like to do again. Instead of snowboarding, I love to ski, which actually has a lot in common with downhill skateboarding. A skating tuck is similar to a ski tuck, in that the shoulders are square with the bottom of the hill.
What other sports or activities are you into and passionate about?
I am very passionate about Yoga! It's done wonders for my physical, emotional and mental well-being, as well as my athletic performance. I am planning on taking a teacher training course this year. As well, I love rugby! I played for my varsity team and a club (until downhill skating came along). Lately I have become very passionate about holistic nutrition, particularly a plant-based diet, and food as medicine.
Any random rad tidbit about you readers should know?
I am probably radioactive, since I was born in Kiev, Ukraine, 20 days before the Chernobyl nuclear disaster. It was not until the truth came out weeks later that we evacuated to Moscow.

RAD shredding tips:
How do you style out your tricks:
I love surfing corners without grabbing rail. Although it's slower like that, it can be more fun, because it makes me feel more connected with my board and the road.
Latest new trick:
Just yesterday I got a new top speed: 106km/h. It felt amazing, but really no different than going 90. I am now totally at ease with these kinds of speeds, which is good since at the World Cup race in Brazil which I'm going to, top speeds can reach 120km/h+.
How-to tip:
For the advanced longboarder: I guess going fast is a trick? Work on getting a really small, low tuck, with no room for air pockets.
- stomach and thighs connect
- back is flat
- arms are tight against the body
- head is low, neck in line with the spine
Once you are there, don't move! Movement while in tuck catches wind and slows you down even more. But don't hold your breath! Maintain a slow, controlled breath in and out through the nostrils. The more in tune you are with the breath, the more relaxed the muscles become, thus giving you the ability to hold a tuck for longer!
For beginners: Learn to footbrake first, before taking on any hills! Don't be a hazard to other skaters or yousrelf. Practice doing it at higher speeds. Once you get that, you will feel more confident and in control and live to skate another day!
What trick (s) are you working on?
I am always working on improving my tuck and being able to hold it for longer! Yoga has helped a lot with my muscular endurance. I am also working standup slides (power slides without putting any hands down).

What inspires you/Who inspires you?
Nature (especially mountains!) and other female shredders.
What do you love?
I am very passionate about health and physical activity promotion, in our age of sedentary people. I am particularly passionate about getting women/girls to be more active!
What music is currently on your playlist?
Right now I've got some Ukrainian rock that my cousin sent me... also enjoying some sweet Yoga compilations, like Prem Joshua or Shiva Rea.

USUALLY when high fashion designers for their collections are inspired by the slopes I puke a little in my mouth, but these days they are doing it, and styling it better than most action sport brands. yup said it. Even though this write-up below is typical and the styles are a lil "EXTREME" (as in kinda awesome)- this write up nails it, as it is really who this collect is for. Unless your making bucks working for a brand that still knows who they are and not chasing fashion victims, style bloggers, or are billons in debt, qick- cough. SO looking forward to the day action sports brands find their own style again (creating trends not killing them) ~Maybe those who should, take notes from the designers who are cashing in on the image.

When I learn a new trick I like to practice it until feel like I can do it smoothly.

NEW trick: Lip slide 270 out

HOW TO TIP: HOW TO Back Lip slide:
1. Pick a rail
2. Ride up to it and in one swift motion pop off your toes
3. As you're in the air turn your board as if you are going into a back boardslide.
4.When you land on the rail shift your weight slightly to the back end of your board and press it out.
What tricks are you working on? I am currently working on 3's off booters and tail press to back 1 out!

4. RadGalz events are shred-styled events but from a girls perspective. RadGalz events feature all abilities categories, yoga clinics, fashion shows, good eats, good music, good coaching and good vibes.
5. It’s healthy competition. Get out to a RG event and check out the competition in a laidback setting. It will help you to know who’s out there and who’s coming up. This can be very motivating to push your skills harder. Plus many RG events feature lots of photographers and often get mad media love so you can add a notch to your media belt.

Love new 2010 Stolen Girlfriend Club Collection...makes you want to steal boyfriends, or just dress yours like this.
